DropBox Reveals Upcoming Android App

A useful tool for everyone's technology toolkit is an Internet file storage account. Like many others, I have found it useful to have file storage on the Internet to place files I may need to access from a number of different locations. Most of the Internet file storage services like DropBox and SugarSync provide a few gigabytes of storage for free and charge for larger file amounts. All of the storage services provide browser access for uploading, downloading, and browsing files. What sets the services apart is what client applications they provide for desktop computers and mobile devices, whether file access is integrated with the desktop operating system's file system, and how much they charge for additional storage. I recently have been using DropBox for storing files, and so I searched for an Android application that I could use to access my files from Android phones. Unfortunately, DropBox does not yet provide an official Android app, but today they showed screen shots of the Android app they are developing. The features that DropBox will be including in their Android app are: - The ability to stream music and video to Android phones from DropBox - Edit files and have the changed files sync back with DropBox - Mark files for offline viewing. To help manage storage space not all files are downloaded to the phone, and you cannot access the files when offline. Marking files for offline storage is a good compromise - Share links to files in DropBox via Bluetooth, Facebook, Gmail, Text Messaging, and Picasa That is a nice set of features to look forward to, and DropBox is promising to deliver the app for all versions of Android in the next couple of months. In the meantime, Android users can use DropBox's mobile web app, and there is a third party DropBox client in the Android Market that provides access to your DropBox account.
