Domino’s Woos Pizza Orderers with Dinner and a Movie

By Devon Glenn

Domino’s Pizza has partnered with Lionsgate UK to put a new spin on the classic dinner and a movie date. Launched today, Domino’s Pizza Box Office pairs online pizza orders with streaming movie rentals for customers in the UK.

The films can be downloaded and streamed directly on a PC or MAC computer, smartphone, or tablet and are available for 48 hours. On the menu right now are new releases like The Hunger Games and What to Expect When You’re Expecting; and old favorites like Scream and Dirty Dancing.

While the selection is not as broad as Netflix’s database of TV shows and films, Domino’s claims to make new releases available for download at the same time that they are released on DVD. (That, and they’ll bring you a pizza.)

In 2011, Netflix had an exclusive contract with Lionsgate UK. That agreement ended when Epix, the on-demand cable channel that’s co-owned by Lionsgate, entered into a new agreement with Amazon.

Said Lionsgate UK COO Guy Avshalom, “We are delighted to be working with Domino’s on this innovative new service and look forward to bringing our new releases and cult classics to pizza eaters in their homes across the country.”
