Veteran photojournalist David Guttenfelder was named “Instagram Photographer of the Year” by none other than Time, showing just how mainstream the Facebook-owned photo- and video-sharing network has become.
Guttenfelder, chief Asia photographer for the AP, is a seven-time World Press Photo award-winner, Time reported, and he has worked in more than 75 countries.
Time wrote of Guttenfelder’s work in North Korea:
In his Instagram pictures, we see the spectral emptiness of Pyongyang’s Orwellian city blocks, the hushed quiet of passengers in buses, the coiled patterns of a carpet in an otherwise nondescript waiting room.
