Casual Collective Renames And Launches Battle Pirates for Facebook

Casual Collective, developer of midcore games on Facebook, announced they will be rebranding themselves as KIXEYE. The social gaming company is also announcing their latest title called Battle Pirates, pioneering the way for real time strategy games on Facebook. More after the jump. Battle Pirates is a game set in the year 2067 in a setting similar to the kind seen in the movie Water World, where majority of the planet is covered in water. With 95% of the population wiped out, the survivors are divided into 2 factions. The first are the Foresaken who specialize in guerrilla warfare, engineering and piracy. The second faction is the oppressive Draconian Empire - a giant military organization. In the game, players build their home base from ground up, placing defensive turrets, researching technology and building any of the 50+ ships available, each with its own armor, weapons and hulls. This is where the game is attempting to differentiate itself. A real-time strategy game is by definition real-time, so the positions and movements of your armada can be noticed in real-time by opponents. The experience is similar to Starcraft but with a persistent social game appeal. “Real gamers will love Battle Pirates,” said Will Harbin, CEO for KIXEYE. “The interactions aren’t simulated like other Facebook games – when fleets attack, all of the players involved are experiencing the same battle, in real-time. This is nothing new to traditional RTSs and MMOs, but today, that functionality is finally on Facebook.” KIXEYE has slowly risen on Facebook, positioning itself as a platform for 'real, core games'. The company aims to attract hardcore gamers. Their flagship title BackYard Monsters has roughly 4MMAUs, with DAUs as a percentage of MAUs hovering around 23%. “Backyard Monsters is killing it on Facebook,” said Will Harbin, CEO for KIXEYE. “We’re profitable because we’re making games for real gamers. And as a true game studio, we’re able to compete in the social game sphere because we understand how to market these games, but at our core, we deliver a real gaming experience. Our next game, Battle Pirates, features real-time synchronicity on the Facebook platform. It’s the first of its kind and showcases the features lacking from other similar games on Facebook. We want users to be able to play real games, even on Facebook.” Competitors include Kabam and really any other social game company out there that's competing for user attentions. Many companies are betting on deeper gaming mechanics, adding elements from consoles to keep the users engaged. This mid-core game strategy isn't meant to garner the kinds of user bases mass-appeal games garner but the ARPU is much higher. How complex will the games evolve to be?
