Casablanca, the classic 1942 film starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, turns 70 this year. To celebrate, Warner Bros. will be screening the film for free tonight, Wednesday May 16, 2012, on Facebook.
Want to tune in? Casablanca will be streamed on the movie’s Facebook page tonight at 7PM PST and 7PM EST. Viewers must tune in before 9PM to enjoy the show for free.
In addition to the screening, Warner Bros. is also releasing a Blue-Ray/DVD combo 70th Anniversary Collector’s edition of the film featuring over 14 hours of bonus material, as well as creating a Casablanca installment of Inside the Script, giving fans the opportunity to delve deeper into the film’s actual shooting script.
So why did Warner Bros. choose to screen the film on Facebook, or all places? Joshua Cohen of Tubefilter points out the surprising fact that in 2010 the average age of a Facebook user was 38. He writes, “The choice was made because Facebook isn’t as young as it may seem, Casablanca already has an innate audience on its Facebook page with over 760K fans, and nowhere else on the internet could Warner get that kind of scale and create their own online video viewing experience.”
Casablanca fans—will you be watching the show tonight on Facebook?
