Facebook continued its efforts to become the go-to destination for information on local businesses with its launch of the business object type in Open Graph, aimed at bringing more accurate data to News Feed, Graph Search, check-ins, and pages.

Facebook continued its efforts to become the go-to destination for information on local businesses with its launch of the business object type in Open Graph, aimed at bringing more accurate data to News Feed, Graph Search, check-ins, and pages.

Required information in the new business object type includes:

  • URL
  • Type of business
  • Name of business
  • Latitude
  • Longitude
  • Street address
  • Locality
  • Country
  • Postal code

And optional information includes:

  • Region
  • Email
  • Phone number
  • Fax number
  • Website
  • Days and hours of operation

Facebook added in a post on its developer blog:

Although this is not a breaking change, we recommend that developers start using this new OG business object type over custom OG objects to represent local business information.

If you have already established a custom business object, you can map your existing custom object to the OG business type.
