Gangsters Get Their Hanukkah On In Bubala Please Web Series

By Megan O'Neill

Today a new Hanukkah web series is launching that is unlike any Hanukkah web series you’ve ever imagined.  Bubala Please puts a new spin on the holiday of lights with Jaquann and Luis—two “latke-making, dreidel-spinning, menorah-lighting gang-bangers.”  That’s right, we said menorah-lighting gang-bangers.  And yes, it’s every bit as offensive as it sounds.

Directed by Jacob Salamon, and written by Salamon, Jared Bauer, and Josh Cohen, Bubala Please stars Marcus Wayne and Rick Mancia as “two angry, misunderstood gangers [that] come to find out they’re both kinda Jewish.  As their friendship develops, they decide to produce a variety show to share what it means to be a tough latke-making, dreidel spinning, menorah-lighting Jew.”  Like we said—it’s unlike any Hanukkah web series you’ve ever imagined.

In the first episode of Bubala Please, which went live today, Jaquann and Luis teach you how to make latkes.  Before you watch, we gotta point out that the language in this video is most definitely NSFW.

We think Emily Fleischaker of Buzzfeed puts it best in her article, which is aptly titled ‘How To Make Latkes And Alienate People.’  She says, “It’s pretty easy.  You’ll need potatoes, onion, eggs, flour, salt, and a bunch of race-based stereotypes.”

Anyway, check the first episode out for yourself and see what you think!  If you like it, there’s more to come.  New episodes will be released as Hanukkah approaches.  I, for one, am interested to learn more about Jaquann and Luis and how they came to discover that “they’re both kinda Jewish.”  Perhaps these details will be revealed in the coming episodes…
