Inks Pact to Distribute Web Series from The Collective

By David Cohen Comment is looking to become more than a blip on the online-video radar screen following its agreement with The Collective’s Collective Digital Studio, which will allow it to distribute and monetize content from Collective creators — including Annoying Orange, FreddieW, Fred, and iJustine — to YouTube and other platforms.

News of the collective deal follows on the heels of Blip.TV’s May 17 launch of its consumer site, and the company said additional updates and products will be introduced throughout the remainder of 2011.

Collective Digital Studio offers its artists creative, social media, and distribution solutions, and, concurrently with the Blip.TV pact, it announced two new original series aimed at teens — an animated series based on Lucas Cruikshank’s Fred character, and a feature-length original Web series from FreddieW creators Freddie Wong and Brandon Laatsch.

Series that were already part of the network prior to the Collective deal include Anyone But Me, Smosh, and Day[9]. CEO and founder Mike Hudack said:

Collective Digital Studio has partnered with many of the most talented and influential online producers and personalities, and we are thrilled to partner with them to maximize opportunities for their clients with fans and with advertisers. This partnership with Collective Digital Studio is a validation of original web series and’s role in the media industry as a whole.

The Collective CEO and founder Michael Green added:

This partnership is one more step in the realization of our plans to provide creative talent with a 360-degree solution to build their brands in the digital space. We’ve long viewed as an ideal partner to bolster Collective Digital Studio’s existing production, social media, and distribution expertise. This deal with will provide our content creators with a whole new set of tools to understand and communicate directly with their audience and will offer additional capabilities for advertisers to engage with our clients’ audiences.

And Cruikshank said:

I believe this exciting new platform will provide Fred fans around the world greater access to enjoy his videos, and I’m thrilled about the new Fred cartoons. As a content creator, it will be fun to have a fresh and growing audience for all of my digital projects and new ideas.
