Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Bill Gates shared “Three Things I’ve Learned from Warren Buffett” on his first day as a LinkedIn Influencer.
Here’s an excerpt:
No matter how much money you have, you can’t buy more time. There are only 24 hours in everyone’s day. Warren has a keen sense of this. He doesn’t let his calendar get filled up with useless meetings. On the other hand, he’s very generous with his time for the people he trusts. He gives his close advisers at Berkshire his phone number, and they can just call him up and he’ll answer the phone.
Gates had spotted Buffett in Omaha at the annual Berkshire Hathaway shareholders meeting, where the two of them have been known to have “ping-pong matches” and “newspaper-throwing contests.”
Buffett seems to have that effect on people. Women Moving Millions CEO Jacki Zehner has also written a Buffett-themed post on her Influencer page.
Launched in October of last year, LinkedIn’s Influencer platform includes more than 250 business leaders whom LinkedIn has tapped to write blog posts and other updates on a public profile that any member can follow. (CNBC anchor Maria Bartiromo, Campbell Soup CEO Denise Morrison, and Lady Gaga manager Troy Carter also made the list today.)
LinkedIn reports that a typical post from an Influencer receives more than 100 comments. Gates’ first post has more than 1,400 comments and counting. Having to use their real names and job titles when they leave a comment hasn’t stopped people from getting real. While many members are calling the post, its author, and/or Buffett “great” or “brilliant,” others are calling it “hogwash.”
