Ben Stiller To Launch Tropic Thunder-Inspired Fake Movie Trailer Web Series

If you’ve seen the hilarious Ben Stiller flick Tropic Thunder then you surely remember the seriously funny fake movie trailers featured at the beginning of the film.  There was The Fatties: Fart 2 starring Jack Black aka Jeff Portnoy, Satan’s Alley with Toby Maguire and Robert Downey Jr. aka Kirk Lazarus, and Scorcher VI with Stiller as Tugg Speedman.  The trailers are just one of the many highlights of Tropic Thunder and fans will be excited to hear that Stiller plans to make even more of them!

According to Mike Fleming at Deadline, Ben Stiller’s production team, Red Hour Digital, has got a brand project in the works—The Fake Trailer Project.  They’ll be creating a series of at least 12 short fake movie trailers, which will be distributed by a partner, which has yet to be named.  Fleming writes, “The plan is to bring together top actors and filmmakers across all genres to take part.”  Apparently they will be releasing one trailer a week, beginning this fall or winter.

For those of you that haven’t seen Tropic Thunder, we’ve embedded a couple of the faux trailers from the film here.  The first is for the homoerotic Satan’s Alley, about a gay priest who is tormented by his feelings for his fellow priest.  This trailer stars Robert Downey Jr. and Toby Maguire.

The Fatties: Fart 2 was also featured in Tropic Thunder and features Jack Black in every role.

Ben Stiller is no stranger to web series.  Last year he directed a series starring his parents and a Zoolander web series has also been rumored to be in the works.  I, for one, can’t wait to see what comes out of The Fake Trailer Project.  How about you?  Will you be watching the movie trailer parodies?
