Bandai Namco's Pac-Man 256 Launches on Mobile

Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe has announced the launch of Pac-Man 256 on mobile devices. Created by Crossy Road company Hipster Whale and Bandai Namco Studios Vancouver, the endless survival game challenges players to help Pac-Man escape the ‘256 glitch’ from the original Pac-Man, which is represented by a jumbled assortment of letters and numbers slowly rising from the bottom of the screen. Players move Pac-Man through environments by swiping to change his direction, and must avoid ghosts as they progress. Players pick up dots as they move along paths (these deal with the game’s power-ups), while special Power Pellets will give Pac-Man the ability to defeat nearby ghosts for a limited amount of time. Gamers can also pick up pieces of fruit or coins scattered on the path. Between each game, the player's accumulated dots help them unlock different power-ups for future games. Once unlocked, players can spend coins to activate up to three different power-ups for the next game, or spend coins to upgrade each power in some way (perhaps increasing a power’s duration, for instance). Active power-ups will appear as collectibles while playing, and may see Pac-Man given a laser that will defeat ghosts on his same path, may slow down the ghosts’ movement for a short time and more. Each traditional game, with support for power-ups, costs a credit to play, with credits recharging automatically over time. When players fail, they can spend another credit to revive Pac-Man and keep going. Players can purchase additional credits to keep playing without waiting, or pay $7.99 to unlock unlimited credits. An additional free play mode is also available, which doesn’t require credits, but also removes the power-up feature from the experience. In a statement, Tatsuya Kubota, head of mobile and Web gaming at Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe, commented: After months of hard work, our fruitful three-way cooperation finally sees the light! Pac-Man 256 is available on App Store, Google Play and Amazon stores as we have worked on making the game as accessible to as many players as possible on the same day. Also, we have been listening to our players and are excited to announce that in Pac-Man 256, players will have the option to buy the game outright, removing all free-to-play elements. We are confident that our old fans and new players alike will be absolutely amazed by our new creation. Pac-Man 256 is available to download for free on the iTunes App Store, Google Play and Amazon App Store.
