Now that school’s out for the summer, it’s time for marketers to begin planning their back-to-school push.
Especially since new data that Twitter shared on its advertising blog yesterday suggests the buzz around back-to-school shopping can begin as early as July.
In the blog post, Haresh Kumar of Twitter’s Vertical Marketing team wrote,
“Over the past few years, we’ve seen that Tweets about back to school shopping tend to spike around Labor Day, but our internal data indicates there’s a longer conversation cycle around seasonal shopping that can start as early as July.”
The big jump in numbers from 2011 to 2012 suggests we can expect, given Twitter’s continual growth, a similar increase this year.
Smart marketers will recognize that building a slow-simmering dialogue starting now, and nurturing it all the way up until Labor Day, is the best way to tap into the conversational riches on Twitter.
Engaging on Twitter is always an ongoing conversation – and, indeed, that word “conversation” implies a two-way dialogue – and back-to-school season provides a great opportunity to implement those engagement tactics.
