During the iGames Summit today, Aurora Feint announced the launch of its “social platform for iPhone,” OpenFeint 1.0. The platform provides iPhone developers with a means to quickly enable sharing to Facebook and Twitter accounts from within iPhone games, as well as easily integrate leaderboards, events, and in-game chat. Several developers have already begun using of the platform including Chillingo, Bolt Creative, and Mobility Ware.
Aurora Feint co-founders Danielle Cassley and Jason Citron told ISG today that after building out the features for their own game and seeing engagement go through the roof, they decided to build out OpenFeint for other developers.
As it stands, using OpenFeint is free for free games, and paid games pay a fee based on the number of monthly active users (MAUs). However, even with a high influx of users, the price tag is still going to equal out to significantly less than building out many of the services in house, marking a potentially wise investment for young development companies.
Developers interested in participating in the beta test are encouraged to apply at openfeint.com.
