Audit Courses From Harvard, Yale, MIT & More On YouTube

By Megan O'Neill

Ever wish you could see what it was like to study Business at Harvard, Calculus at MIT or Law at Yale?  You can, and you don’t even have to leave your bedroom.  YouTube EDU, YouTube’s education channel, offers videos of courses at top schools around the globe in categories ranging from arts and humanities to education, business and law, mathematics, science, medicine, languages and more.

I stumbled across the YouTube Education channel earlier this week, when reading a press release about the addition of the University of London International Programmes to the video site’s EDU database.  The University of London is YouTube EDU’s 100th worldwide member, joining schools such as Stanford, Harvard, Oxford, MIT, Cambridge, Yale, UCLA and more.  The channel also includes over 2,600 videos from the Khan Academy, an amazing not-for-profit organization with a mission to provide the world with free education.

The YouTube EDU channel, found at, can be searched by University or by category.  Categories can be viewed in the image below.

Just as I love what Salman Khan is doing over at Khan University—providing a world-class, free education to anyone with Internet—I love that so many great universities around the world are providing this content on YouTube, opening up their classrooms to anyone who wants to join.  Many of the videos consist of full lectures and full courses, shot in a way that feels as though you are sitting in the classroom.

Check out the video below of the first lecture in a Single Variable Calculus class at MIT to get an idea of what to expect from YouTube EDU.  What do you think about this great offering?  Are there any courses you’d like to audit?
