Did you hear that? Facebook is testing a sound to alert users when they receive new notifications.

The social network confirmed the test to VentureBeat, after author Sean Ludwig had access to the feature for a few days. Manager of Corporate Communications Meredith Chin said the notification sounds were “currently just a test,” and there was no indication on if or when they would be rolled out to all users.

Users who have access to the notification sounds feature can disable it by going into account settings, notifications, and unchecking “play a sound when each new notification is received,” according to VentureBeat, which posted the screen grab and video below.

Readers: Do you think audio alerts for notifications are a useful feature, or would they become annoying?
