While Android smartphone sales were strong in 2010 and continue to be in 2011, the same cannot be said about paid Android apps. Despite its huge sales, Android app revenue is a tiny single digit percentage of Apple iOS app revenue.
Since paid Android apps have not historically sold very many units, is it any surprise Android developers are focusing on free apps? TechCrunch reports on a report from Distimo that may support my thesis (focus on free apps).
TechCrunch also notes that the number of paid apps in the Android Market is about one-third of the number of paid apps in Apple’s App Store.
