Google Announces AdWords For Video With An Emphasis On Getting Your Video Watched

By Megan O'Neill

Today Google announced some pretty huge news for advertisers—they have launched a new AdWords feature to select users called AdWords for Video that lets advertisers easily place and manage ads on YouTube videos and the Google Display Network.  AdWords for Video claims to make it easier than ever for advertisers to set up online video campaigns, reach targeted viewers and gain maximum views.

The service is explained on the new AdWords for Video site:

“This new feature enables advertisers to use a dynamic, auction-based system to easily place and manage video ads on YouTube and the Google Display Network, helping extend your campaign’s reach.

“So tap into YouTube, the world’s most popular video community, and find your audience on the Google Display Network, the #1 ad network that reaches 89% of the online population.  With innovative ad formats and comprehensive targeting tools, we’re making it easy to attract the audience you’re looking for.  Best part is, you only pay when viewers watch your video.”

AdWords for Video has streamlined the set-up process so you can create video ads in half the time, and they’ve also included video-specific reporting metrics to help you track the performance of your video campaigns.  Also, in addition to targeting viewers based on key words, viewers can also be targeted according to demographics, interest categories, topics, and specific publisher placements.

But one of the best things about the new system is that it doesn’t charge advertisers based on impressions—it charges based on views.  YouTube’s TrueView video ads let viewers choose whether or not they want to watch your ad and, when they do, you pay.  If they don’t decide to watch you don’t spend a cent.  Click here to find out more about the Feature and Benefits of the new AdWords for Video offering.
