A Champion for the Cause of Skin-Cancer Awareness
As reported Tuesday by sister blog TVNewser, Sam Champion, one of the anchors of ABC’s Good Morning America, had surgery Wednesday morning to remove skin-cancer cells from his shoulder, and the procedure aired live on GMA.
Champion follows in the footsteps of CBS The Early Show co-anchor Harry Smith, who underwent a colonoscopy on-air in March.
GMA reports that Dr. Michele Pauporte, a dermatologist with Juva Skin and Laser Center in Manhattan, removed the basal cell carcinoma from Champion’s left shoulder using Mohs surgery, a minimally invasive technique, and Champion said he agreed to let it air live in order to raise awareness about the disease.
