Core mobile and web game developer 5th Planet Games has announced it has raised $3 million in funding from Sacramento-based DCA Capital Partners and Moneta Ventures. The funding is the first for the company, which has grown to more than 70 employees with the success of its core role playing games like Dawn of the Dragons and Legacy of a Thousand Suns.

The funding will be used to speed up the future development of new games, as well as support marketing campaigns for the company’s titles on both web and mobile. In addition, some funding will be used to expand the company’s team in all major areas, from game designers and community managers to marketers.

“The fact that 5th Planet Games was able to grow as quickly as it has without taking any prior investment is the sign of a well-run and innovative company which is truly in touch with its player community,” said Curt Rocca with DCA Capital. “We are extremely impressed with the management team’s vision and commitment to optimizing the gaming experience for its loyal player community, and we are honored to partner with them as they continue to build upon their successful tack record.”

As part of this agreement, Rocca and Moneta Ventures’ Lokesh Sikaria will join 5th Planet Games’ board of directors.
