5 Apps For Journalists

Smartphones and tablets make it easier than ever for journalists to stay in touch with newsrooms while out in the field. These devices also serve as great research and recording tools. To help journalists take full advantage of these tools, we’ve put together a list of five apps that can help with researching and reporting. Below we've included a list of all five apps with links and descriptions. 5 Apps for Journalists 1. iENG: "Journalists take full advantage of the iPhone and iPad camera in gathering and producing news reports with iENG. Capture, transcode, and send video and stills back to the newsroom quickly and at a quality that YOU determine. Support for both email and FTP (preferred) export are provided, as is posting to Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube. Designed for use by professional journalists and videographers in either print or television broadcast news environments." 2. Reporters Committee: "Users can view legal topics covering: Gathering the news; Court access; Public meetings; Public records; Reporter's Privilege; and Libel. Within each category, users can narrow in on their particular need. For example, under Court access, they will find access information including juror questionnaires, arrest records, pretrial records and more. Many of the questions also include state-specific law if the user has selected one or more states." 3. Dragon Dictation: "Dragon Dictation is an easy-to-use voice recognition application powered by Dragon® NaturallySpeaking that allows you to easily speak and instantly see your text or email messages. In fact, it’s up to five times faster than typing on the keyboard." 4. Evernote: "Evernote is an easy-to-use, free app that helps you remember everything across all of the devices you use. Stay organized, save your ideas and improve productivity. Evernote lets you take notes, capture photos, create to-do lists, record voice reminders--and makes these notes completely searchable, whether you are at home, at work, or on the go." 5. Recorder: "Recorder 10 introduces an optional outgoing call recording service for pennies per minute! Since we have to work directly with the phone company to provide this service, there is a usage fee, and it only works in the US."
