Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg would not divulge any information on the social media industry’s worst-kept secret — Facebook’s impending launch of video ads — during the company’s second-quarter earnings call Wednesday afternoon.
Jefferies Analyst Brian Pitz asked during the question-and-answer portion of the earnings call:
I’m wondering if you could give us a sense for what the major hurdles are to overcome before deploying a major video ad product on the core site. As you’re out talking to potential clients, can you help us understand what demand looks like for that product?
Sandberg sidestepped the question with her reply:
On video ads, we have a current video ad product, because marketers can embed a video in a page post, and we see a lot of marketers using that product and seeing good results. So the demand to do more in video on Facebook is there, and we’re exploring how we can expand that, but we don’t have anything new to announce today.
