230 Million Tweets Per Day, 50 Million Daily Users And Other Twitter Stats

In his "State of the Union" address to San Francisco journalists Thursday afternoon, Twitter CEO Dick Costolo gave some serious insight into where the company stands and where it's going in the future. Besides announcing that they have now surpassed 100 million active users, Costolo took some time to highlight some other interesting Twitter facts. For instance, while there are 100 million monthly active users on Twitter, the service sees 50 million users logging in, on average, per day. Which means that half of all active users are daily users, too. Twitter's active users are growing faster in 2011 than they did in 2010, and have increased 82 percent since January 1, 2011. The company is on part to add as many active users in the next four months as they added in all of 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 - combined. And all of these users are tweeting. A lot. Twitter sees 230 million tweets per day, up 110 percent from the beginning of 2011. This volume of tweets translates to about 5 billion a month, or more than a billion a week. Mobile is big for Twitter, as one would assume. More than 55 percent of their 100 million active users are also mobile users, logging in to Twitter on their smartphones and cellphones at least once a month. But that doesn't mean Twitter.com is being ousted by mobile apps. On the contrary: Twitter.com sees about 400 million monthly unique visitors - which means that there are 300 million monthly visitors who don't even have a Twitter account, but find value in reading tweets or checking out profiles.
