Shoppers are already using their smartphones to shop this Cyber Monday. According to IBM’s Benchmark Cyber Monday report which was last updated at noon today, 22.4 percent of consumers are using their mobile devices to visit retail sites and 12 percent of consumers are using mobile devices to make purchases today.
These numbers come from IBM Digital Analytics Benchmark’s tool, a cloud-based Web analytics platform that tracks more than a million e-commerce transactions a day. According to the metrics, overall Cyber Monday online sales are already up 24.1 percent.
The report found that the iPhone is driving more retail shopping than other mobile devices. iPhone traffic to retail stores websites today represents 8.7 percent, whereas only 7.2 percent of traffic is coming from the iPad and only 6.3 percent is coming from Android devices. The report also found.2 percent of all online sales on Cyber Monday can through social networking referrals.
UPDATE: As of 3pm today, the number of consumers using a mobile device to visit a retailer’s site is 21 percent and 10.9 percent of consumers are buying on their phones today.
