Rob Shaw and Devi Mahadevia, who work on strategic partner development, sports media content for the social network, offered highlights of Facebook’s involvement in a Facebook Media blog post.

Major League Baseball designed custom team frames for the Royals and runner-up New York Mets, working with the same Facebook product team that was behind the new mobile Timeline features the social network introduced last month.

Fans of the respective ball clubs were able to create temporary profile pictures and set expiration dates to revert back to their current profile pictures, just as they can with similar initiatives with the National Basketball Association and select college football teams.

Facebook also worked with World Series broadcaster Fox Sports on live video chats with Hall of Famer Frank Thomas, former All-Star Raúl Ibañez and MLB on Fox host Kevin Burkhardt.
