World Cup Was Facebook’s Most-Discussed Topic Globally in 2014; Ebola in U.S.

2014YearInReview650The most-discussed topic on Facebook globally in 2014 was 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, while the outbreak of the Ebola virus was the topic of the most conversation in the U.S., the social network announced in a Newsroom post Tuesday.

Data analyst Betsy Cameron, consumer content manager Angie Newman and product marketing manager Peter Yang offered several year-end lists in the Newsroom post, while chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg joined Savannah Guthrie on NBC’s Today Tuesday morning to reveal the lists.

Cameron, Newman and Yang wrote that the following top 10 lists were compiled based on how frequently topics were mentioned in Facebook posts from January through December 2014, adding that posts were analyzed in an aggregated, anonymized fashion.
