Check Out The 2012 Vimeo Festival + Awards Winners

Back in April, Vimeo released the shortlists and opened voting for their 2012 VImeo Festival and last month they announced the finalists. The winners were announced during the festivities, which took place from June 7 – 9, and now you can watch them all right here. Symmetry – Grand Prize Winner & Lyrical The Grand Prize Winner, and also the winner in the Lyrical category, was this awesome ‘Symmetry’ video by Everynone. ‘Symmetry’ is a beautiful juxtaposition of things that are similar, as well as things that are polar opposites. It truly is beautiful. Umbra – Animation ‘Umbra’ took home the prize for animation. A mix of pastels on paper and digital animation, Umbra tells the story of a cute little explorer in an unknown world. Dark Side Of The Lens – Action Sports The winner in the Action Sports category is "Dark Side Of The Lens", a poetic tale of surfing and photography. Mulberry ‘Skirt’ – Fashion ‘Mulberry Skirt’, the winner in the Fashion category, features Natalia Tena from Game of Thrones and Harry Potter and Alex McNally. Rear Window Timelapse – Remix The winner of the best Remix video was ‘Rear Window Timelapse,’ an awesome music video created entirely from footage taken from Alfred Hitchcock’s 1954 film Rear Window. Prie Dieu – Experimental ‘Prie Dieu’ took home the award for the best Experimental category. It is a beautiful portrayal of the praying mantis. Often Awesome: The Series – Series ‘Often Awesome: The Series’ is a documentary series telling the story of Timothy LaFollette, his girlfriend (and later wife) Kaylan, and their struggle with Timothy’s ALS. Blinky – Narrative ‘Blinky’ took home the award for the best Narrative video. ‘Blinky’ stars Max Records, the little boy from ‘Where The Wild Things Are’ and is about a robot helper named Blinky that isn’t at all what he was cracked up to be. Amar (all great achievements require time) – Documentary The Best Documentary award went to ‘Amar.’ The documentary tells the story of a 14-year old boy who is at the top of his class and also the main family breadwinner, working two jobs six and a half days a week while attending school in the afternoons. Manchester Orchestra – "Simple Math" – Music Video The award for best Music Video went to Manchester Orchestra’s ‘Simple Math’ video. SWEATSHOPPE Video Painting Europe – Captured The winner in the Captured category was this awesome video of "video painting" in Europe. According to the video’s description, "Video painting is a technology [SWEATSHOPPE aka Blake Shaw and Bruno Levy] developed that allows them to create the illusion that they are painting videos onto walls with electronic paint rollers they built." Pretty amazing stuff. A History Of The Title Sequence – Motion Graphics The winner in the Motion Graphics category was this sweet video about the history of the title sequence. K-Swiss Kenny Powers MFCEO – Advertising And finally, this awesome (and NSFW) K-Swiss video took home the award in the Advertising category.
