As the end of the year approaches, Apple has released its AppStore Best of 2012, a list of the year’s top sellers, notable trends and editors’ picks. On the paid front, Angry Birds Space took the number one spot for the best selling iPhone and iPad app of 2012. Skype topped the charts on the free iPad apps chart, but on iPhone the most downloaded free app was Google’s YouTube app.
The official YouTube app launched back in September as a response to Apple dropping the built-in YouTube app from iOS 6. It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that the YouTube app has topped the 2012 free iPhone apps chart, considering that mobile video is on the rise and video lovers upgrading to iOS 6 no longer had a built-in option for viewing videos on the world’s most popular video site.
