Safe Sex Goes Viral With New Online Video PSAs

Condoms may be able to prevent pregnancy and STDs, but they can't stop the spread of online video campaigns designed to promote safe sex. This week two online video campaigns promoting abstinence, safe sex and sexual health have been infecting the web (in a good way). Check them out below. Mike 'The Situation' and Bristol Palin PSA This week a lot of people have been talking about a new PSA from Jersey Shore's The Situation and Bristol Palin. In the PSA, which appears to have been shot on the set of Dancing With The Stars, features "Sitch" trying to entice Bristol Palin into sleeping with him. She preaches abstinence, saying she "doesn't want to get into another situation with her situation", and The Situation talk about the importance of safe sex. The star-studded PSA is brought to you by The Candie's Foundation, a foundation that "works to shape the way young people in America think about teen pregnancy and parenthood." Now I have to be honest here. I'm not sure that I would listen to The Situation and Bristol Palin when it comes to safe sex advice. It seems a little strange to hear Bristol, a teen mother, preach abstinence. And do you think teens will really be abstinent because The Situation likes the word because it has the word "abs" in it? Check out the PSA below. Do you think it's going viral because it's a good PSA, or because it's totally awkward? I'm shooting for the latter. Condom, No Condom? This next safe sex PSA doesn't star Bristol Palin, but it was shot in Bristol! Actually, it's a bit more than a PSA - this one is an interactive video game where you have to choose whether or not to buy condoms, use condoms, and get tested for STDs. The game starts out with the video below. You see a man (you) and a woman getting ready for a big night. You then head to a convenience store and need to decide whether you will buy condoms or not. Make your decision carefully, or you'll have to deal with the consequences. If you make the wrong choice you are directed to watch a number of videos on different types of STDs and people who have had experiences with them. I think this is a great campaign by NHS Choices and 4YP Bristol. I have a feeling the young people who this campaign is aimed at will love it - after all, it's pretty risquÃ©. And I think it's pretty obvious which choices are the right ones to make. Hopefully when they are in these situations in real life they will choose to make the same decisions. I think that the web, where things tend to spread virally naturally, is a great place to spread the word about safe sex and other important issues. What do you think of the above campaigns?
