Environmental commitment, barking Star Wars dogs and the Arab Spring all contributed to this year’s CLIO winners. The competition received more than 11,000 submissions from countries as far-reaching as Vietnam, Brazil and Saudi Arabia.
Agencies receiving Grand CLIO Awards included Creative Artists Agency in collaboration with Chipotle (for its “Back to the Start” stop-motion film on “small” farming), Japan’s Projector (for its Intel interactive campaign), and Tunisia’s Memac Ogilvy Label (for its brazen “get out the vote” campaign for the country’s first free election).
BBDO New York was honored as Agency of the Year for its wide range of creative work, including FedEx’s eco-conscious “Enchanted Forest” spot. Ogilvy & Mather won Network of the Year with ads from all corners of the globe. Volkswagen followed up the success of its 2011 CLIO winning “The Force” with a string of ads (including “The Dog Strikes Back”) that won it Advertiser of the Year. Honda Diesel’s classic “Grrr” spot, the most awarded campaign of 2005, took the Hall of Fame Award for Wieden+Kennedy London.
