White House Comment on Midterms Will Come at 1p.m. ET

After losing the House of Representatives but holding on to the Senate in the midterm elections yesterday, White House officials are carefully choosing their words and how they will frame the results. The White House communications staff will stay silent, Politico reports, and President Obama will issue the first official comments at a 1p.m. ET press conference today. Meanwhile, the White House blog has not posted anything in reaction to the midterm results. That doesn't mean top officials from both parties haven't already begun the spin game. A round up of commentary after the jump. 'The time for politics is now over...And now that Republicans have more members in both houses of Congress, they must take their responsibility to present bipartisan solutions more seriously. Simply saying 'no' will do nothing to create more jobs, support our middle-class and strengthen our economy." --Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D) "[W]ashington has been doing what's best for Washington - not what's best for America. Tonight, that begins to change. ... Let's start right now by recognizing this is not a time for celebration. This is a time to roll up our sleeves and go to work. We can celebrate when small businesses are creating jobs again. We can celebrate when the spending binge in Washington has stopped. ... I started out mopping floors, waiting tables, and tending bar at my dad's tavern. I put myself through school working odd jobs and night shifts. I poured my heart and soul into a small business. And when I saw how out-of-touch Washington had become with the core values of this great nation, I put my name forward and ran for office." --Rep. John Boehner (R) "Over the last four years, the Democratic majority in the House took courageous action on behalf of America's middle class to create jobs and save the country from the worst economic catastrophe since the Great Depression. We must all strive to find common ground to support the middle class, create jobs, reduce the deficit and move our nation forward." --House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D) -"I almost wish there were another podium here tonight, because I feel like Nancy Pelosi has been in this campaign the whole time. And Nancy ought to take a victory lap with me. And maybe President Obama as well. The disservice and disrespect that has been leveled on them has been so outrageous and so unjustified that it makes me really fear for this country. When you have two people who work every day to make life better for every American and they put up with the nonsense. ... [I]t's not only unjustified, it's un-American. I voted with Nancy Pelosi a lot of the time." Rep. John Yarmuth (D)
