Since the American Revolutionary War, our bestest buddy — although you wouldn’t know it before this past weekend — has been France.
Before we could count on the United Kingdom, we counted on France. Before we could sing “O’ Canada,” we were saying “Vive La France!” Maybe it’s the wine or the croissants. Whatever the reason, beginning with the Treaty of Paris (1763), the French have been by our side.
Foreign relations lately has been tense, to say the least.
