Susan G. Komen For The Cure, the nonprofit dedicated to breast cancer research and awareness, has selected Morris + King Company for creative and strategic counsel, media relations, comms support, and other PR services. The organization’s global campaign will tap into the healthcare, public policy, lifestyle, events, and scientific research areas.
According to PRWeek, this is the organization’s first national AOR since 2008 when it stopped working with Weber Shandwick partially for financial reasons.
It’s a 14-month contract; the relationship began with a friendship between Nancy Brinker, the founder and CEO of Komen, and Judith King, Morris + King partner and co-principal. In the PRWeek story, Komen CMO Katrina McGhee said healthcare reform and changes in state legislatures were among the things that prompted the retention of a PR firm.
With $1.5 billion invested in the cause since 1982, the organization is the largest resource of nonprofit funding in the fight against breast cancer, the press release announcing the relationship states.
