Waggener Edstrom Communications has hired Wunderman’s Kass Sells as the firm’s new president of North America. Sells most recently served as MD and global client leader for Microsoft at Wunderman. Sells succeeds Jenny Moede in the role of president, as Moede took on the the newly created role of chief business development officer. In the interim, the responsibilities of the North American president role were handled by COO Jennifer Granston Foster and cofounder Pam Edstrom. (The Holmes Report) Powell Tate, the Washington, DC-based arm of Weber Shandwick, has promoted Peter Carson to MD of public affairs. Carson joined the agency in 2007, and he most recently ran the company's healthcare public affairs practice. Earlier in his career with Powell Tate, he worked with the firm's financial services clients. (PRWeek) Highwire PR has opened a New York office and also taken on new senior hires. SVP Kim Paone is heading the New York office, which has been in development for the last six months. Other new hires include VP Shannon Gomes, who will lead consumer food and food tech; VP Elliott Suthers; VP Jill Read; and VP Shari Foldes. (Release) Geto & de Milly, Inc. has hired Kelly Ferraro to play a central role in media relations and press placement for the firm’s real estate, corporate and nonprofit clients. Ferraro joins Geto & de Milly from Rubenstein Public Relations, where she served as vice president in the firm’s real estate division. Previously, Ferraro served as an associate vice president of Rubenstein Associates Financial Services and Legal practice group. Tanis Communications, Inc. has opened a new office in Austin, Texas. The Austin office will be managed by Tanis account director Paul Gaither, who joined the agency in March 2015. Gaither brings nearly 20 years of high-tech marketing and communications experience, working with a broad array of technology clients. He also held senior corporate communications roles at Freescale, Texas Instruments and Nortel Networks. (Release) Elasticity has hired Ann Balsamo as vice president of accounts, effective April 15. Balsamo brings 10 years of agency experience at FleishmanHillard and Weber Shandwick, where she led accounts for a wide variety of brands and organizations with emphasis on consumer marketing and consumer technology. Her early career was spent in non-profit marketing while Balsamo has worked the past five years managing her own financial services practice with Northwestern Mutual. (Release)
