Cohn & Wolfe has appointed Helen Ridgway as chief executive officer of European technology agency AxiCom, which it acquired seven years ago. Ridgway will work alongside Julian Tanner, with whom she co-founded AxiCom 20 years ago. Tanner was named to a dual role as Chairman of AxiCom and as global technology leader for Cohn & Wolfe’s Technology Practice earlier this month. With 30 years of technology communications experience, first as a journalist and then as a public relations agency professional, Ridgway’s most recent role was as UK managing director of AxiCom. Her client expertise spans enterprise IT, telecoms, electronics, retail and consumer tech, and she has led teams for significant agency clients. Allison+Partners named David Marriott, co-founder of Gogerty Marriott, as MD of reputation/ risk and Joel VanEtta (also of GM) as SVP, corporate practice in its Seattle office. Gogerty Marriott began to "wind down" following the death of co-founder Bob Gogerty in August, and PR Week reports that Marriott and VanEtta will be bringing their clients along with them in their new roles. VanEtta will report to Marriott, who will in turn report to Senior Partner and Global Head of Corporate Matthew Della Croce. (Release) Marketsmith, Inc. announced the appointment of Nicole Malino to the position of VP, Digital & Brand Marketing. Within this role, Malino will be leading the existing digital team as well as expanding the digital business practices within the agency. Her responsibilities will comprise the planning and execution of omni-channel campaigns including but not limited to SEO/SEM, display advertising, paid social, and social media. Playing an integral role in driving new innovation for clients and exploring new areas for growth in the digital arena, Nicole brings a welcomed perspective to the team. (Release) WCG announced today that Gary Karr has joined the firm as group director to enhance the Healthcare practice’s public affairs and media expertise. He will be based in San Francisco. Karr is a former journalist whose background includes more than a dozen years working in Washington, D.C. on public affairs and policy challenges. Most recently, he provided communications support to Aetna’s national business unit. Earlier in his career, he served as chief spokesperson for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) during the launch of Medicare Part D. He led communications functions for AdvaMed, the medical technology industry’s leading trade group. For nearly five years, he had a senior role in Edelman’s Healthcare practice in Washington. (Release) Paul Bergevin has joined IBM in the newly-created role of VP-cybersecurity communications. Im his new post, Bergevin will be based in Washington and will work with IBM's security team to create overall cybersecurity policy for Big Blue and communicate with government officials and regulators about the need to deal with the threat posed by cybercrime. Most recently, Bergevin served as global communications general manager at Intel in Silicon Valley. Earlier in his career, he led Edelman's global tech practice. (O'Dwyer's) Revlon announced the appointment of Benjamin Karsch as EVP/CMO. Karsch most recently served as CMO at health care giant Cigna, where he helped relaunch the brand and shift its U.S. health insurance business "from a B2B focus to a consumer-centric approach."
