Farewell Hyphen! AP Style Changes Announced
Starting today, AP style guidelines dictate that the word “email” no longer has a hyphen. Other words like “e-book” and “e-business” will still take the hyphen.
Also, “cellphone” is now one word, and “smartphone” will be spelled as a compound word. Finally, the city of Calcutta will henceforth be “Kolkata.”
The changes have been added to the AP Stylebook Online and will be in the upcoming spring edition of the guidebook. Now if they could bring back “malarky”…
