Paging Jill Abramson. You may want to add this chick to your hit list.
In a world where networks with too much money hire people with too few qualifications (but a skosh of notoriety), there’s Chelsea Clinton.
Mind you, this is also a world in which Jill Abramson can be the former executive editor of The New York Times, have tons of responsibility, and fight to make $475,000 while her predecessor Bill Keller made $559,000. And that’s to run one of the nation’s leading newspapers.
Back to Clinton, who received $600,000 for
only her last name one month of reporting “acuity” on the now-defunct “Rock Center with Brian Williams.”
Your move, America.
According to Politico (because if you were a real journalist, Chelsea, they would hire you), Clinton smacks the nation in the mouth with her check stub from the meh evening news broadcast from NBC.
Clinton, who joined NBC News as a special correspondent in November 2011, was up for renewal or nonrenewal this year. Instead, the sources said, the network decided to keep her on the payroll on a month-to-month basis so the two parties could sever ties if Clinton’s mother, Hillary Clinton, runs for president.
Surely Chelsea got the gig because her air check tape and resume was so overwhelmingly impressive…wait, what’s that? She hasn’t been hired to do anything else?
If you trolled Twitter for any amount of time this week, you learned about the connection between this highly egregious misadventure by NBC News and a Clinton editorial quote earlier this week about her family being “dead broke” in 2001. Yeah, nice try. And good reporting chops, I may add.
I hear there could be a reporting job open in Sioux Falls, S.D. or Billings, Mont. that would appreciate that kind of skill.
At least Meghan McCain and Jenna Bush have reporting aspirations–and they’re pretty good at it on MSNBC and Today Show, respectively. Hey! Maybe it’s just an NBC sucking-up-to-politicians-because-ratings thing?!
Nah, I’m sure it was because Chelsea is the new Walter Cronkite. You go girl. See you at the Pulitzers.
