Newly refined U.S. Census figures released this week show that the Latino population has grown to more than 50 million, with a growth rate of 43 percent, while other ethnicities have not grown as fast. More than half of the growth in the total U.S. population between 2000 and 2010 was because of the increase in the Hispanic population, the Census figures state.
Between 2000 and 2010, the Hispanic population rose from 35.3 million in 2000 to 50.5 million in 2010. This makes Latinos the second largest ethnicity in the U.S. So what can marketers learn from this?
Marketing experts say the focus now should be on multiculturalism, because minority populations have become mainstream.
And, it’s bad news for the National Hockey League which is about to lose it’s fourth-tier sports status to soccer. This would have been good news for my Uncle Dan, whose 1980s career as a U.S. soccer player with outfits like the Philadelphia Fury was merely ahead of its time.
