Case Dismissed: Paula Deen Will Live to Fry Another Day

Today in Sue Me, It's Monday news, we have no doubt that Donald Trump will continue arguing that his for-profit university is a legitimate business and that the suit filed by New York Attorney General Eric Schniederman against Trump University is some sort of political witch hunt. But the year's second least surprising lawsuit has been resolved with only one reputation ruined. The racial discrimination/sexual harassment case filed against one Paula Deen by a former employee is no more after all involved reached an agreement "without any award of costs or fees to any party." Sounds like a win for Paula, right? Not really. Earlier this month, the judge in the case dismissed the racial element of the suit filed by Lisa Jackson, ruling that she was not the victim of such discrimination. We're guessing the fact that she's white was a red flag, but what do we know? Jackson's attorney told the press that the case has been "amicably resolved" (presumably while flipping through his favorite Antonym Dictionary). Deen, who let the world know that she appreciates the long and colorful history of standup comedy by stating in her deposition that "most jokes are about Jewish people, rednecks, black folks ... gays or straights, black, redneck...", says she is "looking forward to getting this behind me." That won't happen anytime soon. In a sign that Deen's reputation is far from rehabilitated, Groupon and LivingSocial, which are sponsoring the upcoming Metro Cooking and Entertainment Show in Houston, have refused to use her name or image in any promotional materials despite the fact that she remains the headlining attraction for the eighth year in a row. Ticket sales for what would be Deen's first public appearance since the whole off-color story broke "are taking a huge hit". Of course, some will continue to stand by their favorite silver-haired diabetes spokesperson, attributing her troubles to "the PC police" or some other nefarious group. And so it goes. We've never tasted her humble pie, but it must be delicious because she can't seem to stop eating it.
