Bill O'Reilly: 'The Internet is Making America Stupid.'

Warm. Fuzzy. And a fresh batch of WTF, right? While I would mail a high-five to Mr. O'Reilly if he said that about text messaging for all the dolts who speak in text lingo, he said the entire Internet is making us a nation of idiots. A Newsweek survey is causing his manties to ride up his self-righteous behind. You see, more than 3 million immigrants took the U.S. citizenship examination from October 2009 to August 2013. Roughly 92 percent of applicants passed it. As for the U.S. citizens who took the native citizenry overview? Well, that earned the name calling... From the FOX News Insider: 29 percent could not name the vice president, 43 percent were unable to define the Bill of Rights, A startling 40 percent did not know America fought Japan and Germany in World War II, 73 percent did not know communism was the main concern of the Cold War, 67 percent couldn't identify capitalism as our economic system And then there's this: Another poll found that one in four Americans couldn't name more than one of the five freedoms in the First Amendment. But more than half of those polled could name at least two members of “The Simpsons” cartoon family. Let's see -- 'Merica or the damn Simpsons? Yeah, I understand the angst but blame that on the Internet? He blamed the Internet for creating a generation of "self-absorbed, addicted, distracted and ignorant people." I hate to break it to him, but Americans were like that in the 80s, well before the Internet thingy caught on. Hell, people were like that in the 60s, during his heyday of platform shoes, bell bottoms and free love. Dude. "America is in decline because so many citizens are not paying attention and are not interested in the welfare of the country," he said. He's right, but again, see the memo on the 80s. The 60s? Everyone cared about the welfare of the country, only when the free love starting costing money, those now parents forgot to teach their kids those virtues. So what do you think? Is the Internet to blame for a severe lack of patriotism, Americana and common sense, or is it something much larger? Say, the loons on Capitol Hill and working in the White House? If that's the example of America, find me a rerun of 'Leave It to Beaver.' At least, that's in the 60s too.
