Angry Birds Spread by Word of Mouth

According to the New York Times, Angry Birds was the best-selling iPhone app of 2010. And Rovio, the Finnish company that created the game, says 200 million minutes of the game are played each day. There have been Angry Bird celebrations around the world. And not only are there plans to bring the game to PCs and gaming consoles, it may also be a movie or children’s program.

All of this success came largely as a result of word of mouth.

If you’re thinking about including a mobile game in your next campaign, a couple of interesting points from the story- these games don’t take a ton of money to create and Angry Birds was actually “meant to be easily played in the checkout line and during other short windows of downtime.”
