NEW YORK In a marriage of traditional and new media, Premiere Radio Networks will launch The iTunes Download, a weekly syndicated radio program.
Originating from Los Angeles, the show will debut this weekend on various Top-40 stations.
The deal underscores the growing popularity of Apple's iTunes as a source for new and popular music.
"The iTunes charts have become the first indicator, each week, of what millions of music fans are buying," said Alex Luke, iTunes' director of music programming, who will serve as host of the three-hour countdown show. "Radio is where more music buyers first hear what they want to buy and iTunes is the place they go to do it, now we're connecting the two."
In addition to playing down the 30 most downloaded songs, Luke will interview music artists, feature celebrity playlists and iMixes -- playlists listeners create in the iTunes Store.
The show also has a companion Web site, www.theiTunesdownload.com, for each week's chart and additional information.
