NEW YORK The International Advertising Festival has named Lachlan Murdoch its Media Person of the Year.
Murdoch, 33, son of Rupert, is the deputy chief operating officer of News Corp., based in New York. He manages News Corp. subsidiaries HarperCollins, News America Marketing and News Corp.'s inserts business. He is chairman of News Limited and News Corp.'s U.S. television station group and publisher of The New York Post. Since he became publisher of the Post, circulation has increased by 40 percent.
Princeton-educated Murdoch's first job in the business was cleaning presses at the News Limited's Mirror in Sydney, Australia. He has also served as general manager of the Queensland Newspaper, publisher of The Australian and deputy chief executive of News Limited, all News Corp. properties.
Last year's winner was Arnaud Lagardere, chairman and CEO of the Lagardere Group, a global publishing company whose 231 titles in 36 countries include magazines such as Elle and Marie Claire.
Murdoch will receive his award during the Press, Outdoor and Cyber Lions ceremony on June 22 at the International Advertising Festival in Cannes, France. The 52nd annual festival will be held June 19-25.
