DALLAS Comcast Cable today unveiled a new offering on its roster of high-definition TV programs with the addition of the Discovery HD Theater channel in the Dallas area.
More than 500,000 homes within Comcast's service area have HDTV-ready TV sets that utilize HD-enabled Digital Cable boxes, company officials said.
Customers will get the 24-hour Discovery HD Theater at no additional monthly charge. Programs include Arctic Mission, Dinosaur Planet, Top 10 Coasters, and special episodes of Trading Spaces and The Jeff Corwin Experience.
Comcast's HDTV content has grown in the region with the recent launch of ESPN HD. "With high-definition broadcasts from our local networks, as well as leading national networks like HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, Starz!, ESPN, INDH and INHD2, Comcast offers one of the most robust HDTV packages available anywhere," said Mike Cleland, Comcast area vp for the Dallas market.
Comcast carries 12 high-definition channels, including WFAA-TV (ABC), KTVT-TV (CBS), KXAS-TV (NBC) and enhanced widescreen digital programming from Fox, among other offerings.
