After operating in relative obscurity for 23 years, the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in Portland decided it was time people took notice.
Beginning this week, bus shelters and news papers in Portland will carry ads from Saatchi & Saatchi, Los Angeles, that marry the unique charms of the Pacific Northwest with the grit of sports.
They do so with the help of a few computer tricks. For example, one ad shows a basketball player setting up for a shot—holding a beaver. Others show a baseball player standing at the plate holding an umbrella and a football player sloshing through wet turf in large rubber boots. In all the ads, the jocks have their serious game faces on.
Jim Jensen, who serves on the hall's executive committee, says the idea is to lure casual obser vers to the two-level museum downtown.
The tagline, which true sports fans will no doubt appreciate, is: "Way more than you need to know."
