Euro RSCG Worldwide last week acquired a majority stake in Black Rocket, a Northern California agency that works with such clients Yahoo! and MTV.
Black Rocket was founded in 1996 by John Yost, Bob Kerstetter and Steve Stone. Clients also include several Condé Nast magazines, Musco Olives and The Body Shop. Details of the acquisition were not immediately available, but the shop has more than $100 million in billings.
"We have a great admiration for the way Bob, Steve, and John have developed and run the agency for the past five years," Euro RSCG Worldwide chairman and CEO Bob Schmetterer said. "Euro RSCG has a long history of acquiring great agencies with strong management teams and letting them continue to run their show." The agency will be renamed Black Rocket Euro RSCG.
Black Rocket is perhaps best known for the "Do you Yahoo?" campaign that launched in 1996. The shop's work for Yahoo! includes all broadcast, newspaper, magazine, and outdoor ads in the U.S.
Euro RSCG is a unit of France's Havas Advertising, which also owns Arnold Worldwide of Boston. Arnold is planning expansion of its own, with buys in Asia-Australia and New York on tap in coming weeks. LISA BERG
