Eisner Communications Loses CD
ATLANTA--Eisner Communications creative director Bill Mitchell has resigned to open his own shop, Bill Mitchell Creative. Both sides said the parting was "surprising . . . but mutual." Mitchell, who led the agency's creative department for more than nine years, headed key Eisner accounts like the Maryland State Lottery and Go RVing. Eisner vice president Abe Novick said a national search for a high-profile replacement is currently under way. Both Mitchell's former agency and his new one are located in Baltimore.
Hill, Holliday Founder Dies at 67
BOSTON--George J. Hill III, chairman emeritus of Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos, died on Friday at his home in Dedham, Mass., after a long battle with cancer. He was 67. The Harvard-educated copywriter retired in 1995 as chairman of the Boston-based agency he co-founded in 1968 with partners Alan Holliday, Jack Connors and Stavros Cosmopulos.
Florida Lottery Bows Hispanic Spots
ATLANTA--Sanchez & Levitan releases a trio of new Spanish-language television commercials this week for the Florida Lottery, which is expanding to twice-a-week drawings. The spots feature Hispanic comedian Eddy Calderon, a fast-talking Robin Williams type with a gift for mimicry and a wide range of facial expressions. Set at a bodega, where the majority of lottery tickets are sold in the Hispanic community, Calderon imitates the multitude of dialects found in the Miami area. Radio and point-of-purchase buttress the Miami shop's campaign.
Match Print Ads to Break in 'People'
ATLANTA--Match here breaks a new national campaign for Georgia-Pacific's communication papers division in the Nov. 8 issue of People magazine. Directed at small business and home computer owners, the ads use animals to personify printers who find cheap generic paper hard to swallow.
ApplianceOrder.com Names Finalists
DALLAS--ApplianceOrder.com is down to three finalists in the review for its $20 million account. They are: Egan/St. James, Pittsburgh; The Richards Group, Dallas; and GSD&M, Austin, Texas. The Austin-based client sells large appliances over the Internet.
Telecom Talks to Shops in Mid-America
CHICAGO--Birch Telecom is considering 11 agencies in Illinois, Missouri, Kansas and Texas for its $7-12 million account, according to Helen Thompson, director of corporate communications at the Kansas City, Mo., company. Birch, previously with Prairie Dog in Kansas City, wants a larger agency to handle its creative and media accounts, Thompson said. Three finalists will be chosen to present the week of Dec. 13, with a selection expected by Dec. 20. Birch provides local, long-distance and Internet services to small and mid-sized businesses.
