BBDO Tests First EarthLink Work
SAN FRANCISCO--Testing of BBDO West's TV, outdoor and radio campaign for EarthLink Networks is under way in select markets nationwide. The estimated $2-3 million effort could be the start of at least a $20-30 million campaign for the Internet service provider, said sources. The effort uses the tagline, "It's your Internet. We just connect you to it."
Western Names Bell to Senior Post
LOS ANGELES--Western Initiative Media Worldwide named James T. Bell executive vice president/managing director for Northeast operations. Bell will be responsible for daily operations and business development in the media management company's Northeast region. Bell joins from Grey Advertising's MediaCom in New York. Bell will report to Michael Lotito, president and chief operating officer of Western.
Williams Replaces Mathieson on Kia at GMO
SAN FRANCISCO--Goldberg Moser O'Neill has hired Bill Williams as vice president in charge of the agency's Kia Motors America business. He replaces Craig Mathieson, who recently left to pursue other interests. Williams spent time as senior vice president of the Ford U.S. and Ford Europe accounts at J. Walter Thompson in Detroit, London and New York. He most recently worked for McCann-Erickson on the General Motors Europe and Canada accounts.
William Clay Ford to Speak at Motor City West
LOS ANGELES--William Clay Ford, chairman of Ford Motor Corp.'s board of directors, will be the featured speaker at the the Advertising Club of Los Angeles' annual Motor City West seminar. Additional speakers include Doug Hoffman, manager of national advertising at Honda, and J. Davis Illingworth, senior vice president, planning and development at Toyota Motor Sales USA. Cornyn + Partners in San Francisco has been awarded new business from Liquid Audio and Licensemusic.com, two Web-based music marketing companies. Combined, the separate Bay Area accounts are worth $7-10 million. ... Star System, the largest ATM network in the country, awarded its estimated $5-10 million ad account to Eisner Communications, Baltimore. Arnold Communications, McLean, Va., was agency of record for Honor Technologies, which merged with Star System in March. Matthews/Mark in San Diego was the agency of record for Star System. ... The Game Show Network awarded its ad account to TBWA/Chiat/Day's San Francisco office. The shop won the Culver City, Calif.-based network's multimillion dollar account after a review of undisclosed agencies. Business-to-business ads will break in the fall, followed by a consumer campaign during the first quarter.
