Sonics Ads Honored As World's Best In TV Category
LOS ANGELES--WongDoody is being honored with the top prize in the Television/Cinema category at today's 1998 London International Advertising Awards.
The Seattle-based shop is taking home the category's Grand Prize for its TV campaign for the Seattle SuperSonics basketball team--an effort also tapped as the best "Low Budget Campaign." The 30-second spots show the Sonics' Sam Perkins, Nate McMillan and Gary Payton joining in a kids' slumber party, playing shuffleboard at an elderly care facility and crashing a Tupperware party. The ads touted last season's Sonics TV schedule with the tag: "See them in your home."
The awards show is being held at London's Royal Lancaster Hotel. Over 80 creative teams from around the world submitted a total of 16,738 entries in five major categories: Package Design, Print, Radio, Television/Cinema and Interactive Media. A total of 157 winners are taking home the show's statue for excellence.
Other U.S. agency winners in the TV category are: Euro RSCG DSW Partners, Salt Lake City, for Intel; Cliff Freeman and Partners, New York, for Fox Network; BBDO, New York, for Visa Platinum Card; and Young & Rubicam, New York, for United Airlines.
