Glaxo Wellcome has narrowed the contenders' list for its consolidated $100 million domestic media planning and buying account.
Sources believe the shops selected from the original 20 agencies and media buying services are: J. Walter Thompson; Grey Advertising; TeleVest, a unit of D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles; and The Media Edge, a unit of Young & Rubicam, all in New York; and Western International Media in Los Angeles. The business is currently split among eight to 10 shops nationwide.
Executives at the Research Triangle Park, N.C.-based drug company and The Bedford Group in Atlanta, the consultancy conducting the review, did not comment. A decision is expected in the next few weeks, said sources.--Cristina Merrill and Jim Osterman
