[1]“There is no doubt that ‘What happens here, stays here [2]’ has put the Las Vegas brand on the map,” one Vegas marketing executive told our friends at Brandweek last year. But first of all, it’s not clear [3] that everything that happens in Vegas does stay there. Besides, what actually put the Vegas brand on the map was gambling and strippers. Thus, while you will not find Nevada Gov. Kenny Guinn talking this week about the ad campaign (an image from which is shown here), you will find him saying that Vegas cab drivers should be able to earn bounties for steering passengers to strip clubs [4]. The state legislature recently passed a bill banning such bounties, but Guinn is ready to veto it. This is what passes for politics in Nevada—again proving that Vegas is a true original, and that no news there is bad news. Who cares if Guinn’s 49 fellow governors are laughing at him?
